The United States of America is planning to deploy troops to fortify NATO forces in Eastern Europe in the wake of the fears that Ukraine might get invaded by Russia, according to a senior official of the US government.
The troops from the United States of America are ready to set foot on foreign soil again, months after having to withdraw from Afghanistan. The President of the US, Joe Biden has approved the additional deployment of about 3000 American troops to Eastern Europe amid the crisis with Russia. Russia has amassed over 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian borders ready to invade the country at any moment.
The officials from the US stated that the troops will not be deployed in Ukraine but rather they will go to Poland and Romania to protect NATO’s Eastern side. Around 1000 personnel who are currently based in Germany will move to Romania and the rest of 2000 will be departing from Fort Bragg military base shortly from North Carolina. Out of the total number of army personnel, 1700 members from the 82nd Airborne Division will be going to Poland and 300 members from Airborne Corps will be deployed in Germany.
According to the officials’ statement, the moves are not permanent and only defensive in nature. They have stated that the US is only responding to the current circumstances with an aim to reassure the allies of NATO and meet the commitments of the United States of protecting them. A Pentagon spokesperson mentioned that the troops that are being deployed are going under the bilateral agreements with Poland, Romania, and Germany and will remain under the control of the US.
John Kirby, the spokesperson said that these are not permanent moves and they are not going to fight in Ukraine but only in ensuring the robust defence of the United States NATO allies. There is a lot of apprehensions that if the US does not show up in military terms, it will embolden Russia to train its sight on all the former Soviet Republics and it might try to reconstitute USSR 2.0 which might turn out to be an endgame for Moscow.
After the sharp exchange from both sides about who exactly is the aggressor in Eastern Europe, the US has decided to deploy troops against Russia. The US has also responded to the allegations by Russia that it was being provocative in trying to rope Ukraine into NATO and said that it is the Russian President who has invaded multiple countries in the past few years.
