US approves $2 billion military loans and grants to Ukraine, neighbors

According to the State Department, the United States approved an additional $2 billion in loans and grants for Ukraine and its neighbors to purchase US military hardware on Thursday.
In addition to the $675 million in additional direct aid to Ukraine that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced earlier on Thursday, there is new assistance under the Foreign Military Financing program.

According to a State Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Secretary of State Antony Blinken informed Congress of the $2 billion “to bolster the security of Ukraine and 18 of its neighbors, including… many of our NATO allies as well as other regional security partners who are most potentially at risk for future Russian aggression.”

In the fiscal year that ended in June, the US had already authorized $4 billion in loans and grants to Ukraine and its neighbors.
