The President of Russia was seen thanking the President of France, Emmanuel Macron for paying a visit to Moscow. As per the joint statement, Putin said that his French counterpart had presented a lot of ideas that were worth considering.
The Russian President said that he was ready for compromise and would be looking into details of the proposals that were put forward by Macron in talks on Monday. Putin was still blaming the Western Agencies for the rising tensions over the Russia vs Ukraine crisis. After meeting with the President of France for more than five hours in the Kremlin, the two leaders had hoped that a solution to avert the worst crisis between the Western powers and Russia ever since the cold war ended.
Putin was grateful for the French President’s visit and said that the leader of France has presented ideas that were worth studying. As per the statement by Putin, he said that several ideas and proposals by Macron could form a base for further steps. He also added that they will be doing everything to reach compromises that will suit everyone. Although he did not go into the details, he did mention that the two leaders would continue to talk on the phone after the French President meets with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, on Tuesday.
Emmanuel Macron said that he had made proposals of concrete security guarantees to Putin and the Russian President had assured him of his readiness to engage. Macron added that the proposals included an undertaking from both sides to not go ahead with any military action, and the launching of a fresh strategic dialogue along with the efforts to revive the progress of peace in Ukraine.
Putin did not agree to Russia acting aggressively despite the fears of invasion put forward by the Western Agencies after the deployment of thousands of troops on the Ukrainian borders. Putin said that it was not Russia who was moving towards the borders of NATO, speaking about the alliance that was being deployed in Eastern Europe.
The meeting in Russia came at the start of this week when the President of the United States was also hosting the Chancellor of Germany in Washington. Joe Biden had also made a categorical vow at the joint talks of diplomacy citing that he will ensure the shutting down of the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if Moscow launches an invasion of Ukraine.
