The Caste Scrutiny Committee cleared Sameer Wankhede in a certificate case against him. Sameer Wankhede was the former Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). For allegedly using a bogus caste certificate to apply for a government job, he was under investigation. The panel found that although he was not a Muslim by birth, he is a member of the SC community. He supposedly belonged to the Hindu Dalit community known as the Mahar.
An official stated that the directive was sent on Friday by the Maharashtra government's Social Justice Department. The issue of Wankhede's caste was brought up by former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik.
They said that Wankhede, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was admitted to the esteemed central government service by means of a forged caste certificate.
While no illegal items were discovered in the 24-year-possession, old's the officer courted controversy when he detained Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, and several others during a cruise ship narcotics operation in October 2021.
In separate complaints submitted to the caste scrutiny committee in November and December of last year, activists Manoj Sansare, Ashok Kamble, and Sanjay Kamble claimed that Wankhede's claims were false and that the IRS officer and his father, Dhyandev, had converted to Islam and that the former's school record had his father's name listed as "Dawood." They also claimed that the IRS officer had changed his name from "Dawood" to "Dawood."
The committee dismissed the case on Saturday, concluding that Sameer Wankhede is not a Muslim by birth and that there is no supporting documentation for the other allegations. It ruled that the father-son team did indeed belong to the aforementioned community and disregarded the accusations made by the NCP leader and others.
