Justice UU Lalit, the country's new chief justice, released a list of items he planned to accomplish during his 73-day term as chief justice on Friday. On Saturday, Justice Lalit will assume control.
The first aim, according to Justice Lalit, would be to make listing as easy to understand, transparent, and clear as possible, among the three main areas of his concentration. He also pledged to establish a transparent system in which urgent issues may be raised without restriction before appropriate tribunals.
The CJI-designate said his third area of concentration will be listing of matters before the Constitution benches and matters which are expressly referred to benches of three judges while speaking at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) goodbye ceremony for departing CJI NV Ramana.
The Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that it would list for hearing on August 29 25 five-judge Constitution bench cases that had been lingering for quite some time.
CJI NV Ramana, who announced his retirement on Friday, claimed it was his constitutional obligation to dispel the impression that the court is somewhat cut off from the general public and to bring the Constitution closer to the people by raising awareness and fostering trust in the judiciary.
