At the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting competition for the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Thursday, Sudhir won India’s sixth gold medal.
He set a new Games record with 134.5 points, maintaining his lead throughout the contest. India is now seventh in the medal count with six gold medals after this victory.
Sudhir outperformed his rivals by a wide margin as he lifted 208 pounds in his first effort and 212 pounds in his second. Nigeria’s Ikechukwu Christian took home the silver medal, and Micky Yule of Scotland earned the bronze.
Sudhir, a 27-year-old with a disability brought on by polio’s effects, thus started India’s medal count in the CWG’s para sports competition.
Sudhir began by attempting to lift 208 kg, but in his second attempt, he was able to raise 212 kg, taking the lead. Sudhir was unable to attempt 217 kg on his third and last attempt, but he still managed to win the gold medal and set a Games record with his 134.5 total points. India won their eighth gold medal at the current Commonwealth Games. People from all walks of life congratulated Sudhir on winning the gold medal on Twitter.

He has been consistently performing well on the field. Congratulations and best wishes to him for all upcoming endeavors,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter.
In June, Sudhir competed in the World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championship in South Korea and took home the bronze medal in the men’s up to 88 kg division with a best lift of 214 kg.Sudhir, who began powerlifting in Sonipat in 2013, has also qualified for the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, which will now take place in 2019.
