Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was wounded in the foot on Thursday at a political event, but he is recovering well, according to a top aide.
According to his top adviser Raoof Hasan, Khan was hurt when gunfire from the mob close to Gujranwala was fired.
Hasan stated that one accused assailant had been shot dead, and a second had been brought into custody, claiming that "this was an effort to murder him, to assassinate him."
Since last Friday, Khan has been leading a march from the city of Lahore to the capital Islamabad to support new elections after being forced from power this spring.
The 70-year-old Khan has climbed a shipping container being hauled by a vehicle each day during his alleged "long march, "making speeches from the open top to crowds of thousands in cities and towns along the way.
