BJP Blames Nitish for Patna Crimes, But Statistics Show the Murder Rate Was Up Even When Both Were in Power

The Rashtriya Janata Dal, whose affiliation with Kumar has once again rearranged political coalitions in the state and which is known in Bihar as the “jungle raj,” only wants to discuss her promise of jobs to the youth. The criticism from the BJP, according to deputy prime minister Tejashwi Yadav, is propaganda because chief minister Nitish Kumar reiterated his commitment to provide 10 lakh government employment for the state’s young people on August 15. Yadav claimed that the government will not be deceived.

An attempt to rob an Army jawan named Bablu Kumar near the Patliputra railway station resulted in miscreants shooting him dead in Patna late on Wednesday night.

A person saw on CCTV shooting at a class 9 girl student in the city on Wednesday. The victim’s health is in grave danger. Police said they have some leads but have not yet been able to identify the perpetrators in either case.

Up until June, when the JD(U)-BJP administration was in power, homicides in Patna were on the rise. According to official Bihar Police data accessible till June, 166 murders occurred in the past year, with an average of 25 to 30 such occurrences. Throughout June of this year, while the JD(U)-BJP administration was in power, murders in Patna reached a peak. According to official Bihar Police records up to June of that year, 166 murders had occurred, with an average of 25 to 30 such incidents being reported each month. This is an increase from 2021, when 195 killings were reported in Patna for the entire year, and from the state capital district in 2020, where 204 were reported.

As of June of this year, 1,533 killings had been registered throughout Bihar, compared to 2,799 last year and 3,149 in 2020. 1.62 lakh detectable crimes were reported in the state through June of this year, down from 2.82 lakh in 2021 and 2.57 lakh in 2020, indicating that the first half of 2022 was even worse than the JD(U)-BJP administrations on the front lines of law and order.

According to a police official in Bihar, organised crime in the state was at an all-time low, but reports of killings caused by rivalries or other interpersonal conflicts persisted.
