Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on June 18 that the 5G rollout would begin in 20-25 cities and towns by the end of the year, with deployment beginning in August-September 2022.
Because India's data rates are substantially cheaper than the global average, the Minister believes the country will continue establishing rate standards when new services are launched.
India is actively creating 4G and 5G stacks, bolstering its position as a trustworthy supplier for the globe in digital networks, according to Vaishnaw, who added that governments are eager to give precedence to India's 4G and 5G products and technology.
The Minister also mentioned that an important measure to address the issue of unwanted calls is in the works. It will allow a caller's KYC identity name to be used.
"I can state with certainty that 5G rollout will commence in at least 20-25 cities and towns by year-end," the Minister said at the 'TV9 What India Thinks Today Global Summit' on 5G services.
Regarding the 5G service price, Vaishnav pointed out that data costs in India are now at $2, compared to a global average of $25.
"We are now the cheapest in the world, by at least a factor of ten...we are ten times cheaper than the rest of the world, and that tendency will continue in other sectors," he stated.
The Minister went on to say that the rest of the world has taken notice of the country's success and is very interested in the indigenous technologies being produced.
"The telecommunications network that supports mobile phones must be reliable. The name of India is at the top of the list of reliable network providers. When India creates a technology, the rest of the world takes notice, "he stated
According to predictions, 5G services will provide high speeds — around ten times quicker than 4G — as well as new services and business models.
The Centre will auction airwaves worth approximately 4.3 lakh crore capable of providing five-generation or 5G telecom services, like ultra-high-speed internet, for about 4.3 lakh crore. It has also been approved for IT companies to build their own 5G networks.
Up to 72 GHz of the spectrum will be auctioned off at the 5G auction, which will begin on July 26, 2022.
In response to consumer complaints about poor download speeds, the minister noted that India's average data use, at 18 GB per month, is higher than the worldwide average of 11 GB per month.
"India's data usage is higher than that of wealthy countries. Infrastructure needs to be better funded. Massive infrastructure improvements are critical in light of data rates, call dropouts, and call quality issues, "he said
Furthermore, he stated that residents in places like Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and other cities frequently protest against the building of mobile towers.
There is no need to be concerned about this because India's Electro-Magnetic Field (EMF) radiation standards are stricter than worldwide standards, he said.
