Coronavirus: China relaxes covid-19 restrictions on Shanghai after two months of lockdown with new rules introduced.

The two month covid-19 lockdown restrictions on Shanghai, China have been lifted on Tuesday. Shanghai, the country’s economic centre and a global trade hub, is now back to life.

“This is a day that we dreamed of for a very long time,” Shanghai government spokeswoman Yin Xin told reporters.

“Everyone has sacrificed a lot. This day has been hard-won and we need to cherish and protect it, and welcome back the Shanghai we are familiar with and missed.”

However, some new rules are introduced as the covid-restrictions are lifted where nationals should have a green health code on their smartphone while leaving or entering other places.

Residents are asked must have a negative PCR test certificate valid in the last 72 hours to enter malls, banks or to use public transport.

Restrictions on leaving Shanghai remain, with anyone travelling to another city facing a quarantine of seven to 14 days upon their return. While Cinemas, museums and gyms remain closed. Most children will also not return to face-to-face schooling.

Still, people are happy after the relaxation of the two-month lockdown restrictions came into force.
