Today i.e. from 20th October, India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), also known as RapidX, is going to be launched. It will be inaugurated by PM Modi.
The first semi-high-speed regional rail service – RapidX – will be thrown open to the general public on Saturday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor in Sahibabad. . With the commencement of this train service, the travel time between Sahibabad and Duhai depot will be 12 minutes, which usually takes around 30-35 minutes by road.
What are the features of RRTS (Rapidx)?
RAPIDEX is India’s first rail transit system which will have an average speed of 100 kmph, which is much higher than the metro and Indian Railways trains.
The 17 km long priority section of this network has five stations; Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot.
Each premium coach is planned to have colour-coded seats, a vending machine; Reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders and footrests will also be available.
The doors are equipped with push-button facility, allowing passengers to board and deboard the train when it stops at the station. The push button becomes active only after the train stops at a station.
About six CCTV cameras have been installed in each coach.
Additionally, an emergency door opening system, to talk to the train operator in case of other types of emergencies, and fire extinguishers are installed.
