Near to IGI airport, the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has planned to build another ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) at Dwarka, Delhi. The new ISBT is expected to become a junction for buses coming from Punjab and Haryana and will be in close range with the IGI airport.
Before the new and supposed proposal of ISBT Dwarka, DTIDC has been in the past involved with the management of three other ISBTs, located within the capital. The previous three were namely at Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, and Kashmere Gate. With the arrival of two more ISBTS (Dwarka and Narela), the corporation will have a total of 5 ISBTs working within the capital, and connecting cities. For this work, the DTIDC has accumulated a total of 27 acres of land in the Dwarka Sector 22 nearby area. The expected number of daily passengers to access the newly built terminal will be approximately 1.5 lakh.
The construction of ISBT Dwarka was first started in the year 2018 but due to a coronavirus outbreak, the work has had to be halted by the corporation. But with the start of the new year, the DTIDC has decided to first clean the land of extensive grassland and to put forth more tenders to boost the construction of the new Dwarka terminal.
As compared to other ISBTs hosted by the capital, the Dwarka ISBT will be unexpectedly smaller but will host buses from major travel routes like Punjab and Haryana. Besides the common commuting states, the terminal will also become a connecting driveway for travelers traveling to Agra and Jaipur. The soon-to-be-constructed ISBT Dwarka will be centrally air-conditioned, with an added facility of quality lounges, built-in lieu of commuters' leisure.
The ISBT will be located opposite Sector 21 metro station of Dwarka. The metro station will become a complementary advantage to commuters who are interested to travel further ahead,i.e., Noida/Greater Noida (Blue Line) or Airport express (Orange Line).
This newly built terminal has been planned to reduce traffic at the other three present ISBTs of Delhi. The few features expected to be seen in it are an Underground parking facility for buses, Multi-level car parking, bays for rickshaws, taxis and cabs, passenger lounge, and modern WC/ toilets. The construction will be under the PPP model (public-private partnership).
