Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, delivered the first update on the company’s autonomous driving pilot programme. In a blog post on its official website, Xiaomi unveiled Pilot Technology, a revolutionary autonomous driving system that was entirely internal developed. In order to build the initial R&D phase of its autonomous driving technology, the corporation has committed to spending RMB 3.3 billion (about Rs. 3,897 crore).
Over 500 professionals from all over the world have been employed by Xiaomi for the R&D team of the first phase. In March 2021, the firm made its inaugural announcement about entering the smart electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi’s completely in-house built autonomous driving solution is known as Pilot Technology, according to GSM Arena. In order to establish the R&D team and develop what it describes as the most cutting-edge self-driving technology, the business has committed USD500 million (about INR3,981 crore).
Xiaomi recruited more than 500 specialists from around the world for its R&D team. Along the process, the business made a number of acquisitions and strategic investments to secure access to the most latest developments and technologies.
Lei Jun asserts that the autonomous technology used by Xiaomi was built using a full-stack technique that was created internally, and that the progress made so far has beyond all expectations.
To further strengthen its long-term industrial strategic capabilities, the corporation is investing additional $300 million (around INR 2,388 crore). This investment includes direct ownership stakes in more than 10 already successful companies that deal with everything from sensors to actuators to controllers in the autonomous driving industry. In order to guarantee that it has continuous access to resources and technology, Xiaomi is not taking any chances.
Using a full stack approach, the business has complete control over both the hardware and software, and it built the autonomous driving algorithm wholly in-house. With the help of this technique, the company is able to develop entirely exclusive solutions with closed-loop data capabilities. It permits quick, user-driven changes to both software and hardware.
