Renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, known as the father of India's Green Revolution, has passed away at the age of 98.
Swaminathan played a key role in developing high-yielding varieties of paddy, which helped ensure that India's low-income farmers produced higher yields.
PM Modi tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. MS Swaminathan ji. “At a very important period in our country’s history, his groundbreaking work in agriculture transformed the lives of millions of people and ensured food security for our country.”
