As the world prepares for the 4th wave of the Coronavirus, the situation in the country has started to worsen. India’s tally of patients has gone up to 358 in 17 states and union territories. With the recovery of 114 people, 26 have died due to the latest variant of the deadly virus that took over the world in 2019.
The Union Health Ministry has issued a fresh statement in this regard. People are being warned of the new surge in cases in the wake of the Omicron Variant. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has said that the world crossed the 9 lakh mark of the Covid cases on December 23 which clearly indicates a fresh wave of the Coronavirus during the weekly press meeting.
The ministry also said that in comparison to Europe, North America, and Africa, Asia has not seen a great increase in the number of fresh cases but that does not give us the right to act carelessly. It also reported that the nation’s daily case tally fell below the mark of 10,000 in the past four weeks while it had been recording around 7000 cases every day.
The Health Ministry stated that while the Global positive rate of Corona is above 6 percent and India has the rate of 5.3% with regional variations. The main cause of concern is the rate of spread in the states of Kerala and Mizoram. The districts in the country have reported a weekly rate of 5-10%. 121 out of the 183 cases analyzed in India had a history of traveling to foreign countries while 44 had contact with the people who had gone out of the country.
The report of 18 patients could not be reported because their details are still missing. The Centre said that 87 people amongst the 183 were fully vaccinated, 3 have had three doses. Seven people were unvaccinated and 2 people had been partially vaccinated.
Although the Delta variant continues to dominate the nation more than the Omicron, the cause of concern is the rapid spread of Omicron all over the western world. The government has issued warnings and placed restrictions on people and rightfully so. The forthcoming festival season is also a big worrying factor for the government but stringent measures are expected to be taken if the law is not adhered to by the people.
