National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 September in India. The week is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of nutrition and promoting healthy eating habits among the population.
Various activities and events are organized in this week by government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), educational institutions and health facilities. These activities aim to educate people about the importance of a balanced diet, proper nutrition during different stages of life and prevention of malnutrition and diet-related diseases.
The Food and Nutrition Board of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, organizes National Nutrition Week to make people aware of this fundamental phenomenon.

The American Dietetic Association (ADA), currently known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, established National Nutrition Week in the year 1975. The aim of this week is to create public awareness about the innumerable benefits of healthy nutrition and active lifestyle.
Due to the enthusiastic public response to the idea of National Nutrition Week in 1980, the celebration was extended to a full month. National Nutrition Week was first recognized in India in 1982, when the government launched several initiatives to inspire, sensitize and educate people about healthy nutrition and its association with good health and longevity.
