The nation has officially seen the third wave of the deadly Coronavirus. Both Mumbai and Maharashtra have reported double the number of daily Covid cases in the past 48 hours. 8067 new cases were reported on Friday as opposed to only 3900 on Wednesday.
The officials have declared the arrival of the third wave or the Omicron-Covid wave. Vijay Wasettiwar, (Relief, and Rehabilitation Minister) said that the state is on the verge of a full lockdown and it is only a matter of time before the strict restrictions will be implemented. The State Public Health Department has also stated that the number of active cases is estimated to increase up to 2 lakh by the 3rd week of January. As of now, the active cases are 24,509 in the state of Maharashtra alone and it has increased three-fold in December.
All the districts have been asked by the government to start the preparations for the threats being posed by the Omicron. The number of cases in this wave is expected to be massive and even with a 1% mortality rate, 80,000 people can still die in 80 lakh Covid patients.
India has reported 22,775 cases on Saturday and the number of Omicron has pushed this number a lot higher. The deaths caused by the virus have also risen by 406 in the past 24 hours.
Some of the states have reimposed the night curfews beyond January 1 keeping in mind the rate of growth of the virus. The Omicron that has been spreading at an alarming rate has kept all the state governments on their toes to stop the spread across the nation. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has declared a ‘yellow alert’ in the state. Mumbai has put stringent measures in place to be followed till January 7, 2022. Karnataka has also issued prohibitory orders to remain in effect.
The government has also issued an advisory asking people who have any symptoms to isolate themselves and follow the home isolation guidelines until their COVID test results come back. Symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat, breathlessness, body ache, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell. People who have some or all these symptoms must be tested for infection of the COVID-19.
Dr. Vyas has warned people against getting careless thinking that the third wave will be mild and not fatal. He has also urged people to get their vaccines administered as soon as possible to prevent the virus from spreading.
The number of rising cases is worrisome for the entire nation. As of now, the only solution l we all have is precautionary measures and following the covid appropriate behavior. To mask up no matter the vaccination status is the way to enter the new year.
