At the Raj Bhavan in Patna on Wednesday, Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar took the oath necessary to become Bihar’s seventh chief minister, according to ANI. Tejashwi Yadav, the head of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, took the oath of office to succeed him.
After leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance on Tuesday, Kumar announced his resignation as chief minister. After being chosen as the head of the grand coalition of nine parties, which also included the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress, he staked his claim to establish a new government a few hours later.
The JD(U) said on August 7 that it would not be a part of Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet’s expansion. Kumar had also skipped the NITI Aayog meeting that day, which was presided over by the prime minister.
Kumar has parted connections with the BJP twice, most recently this time.
He left the NDA in 2013 once it was revealed that Modi would be the coalition’s choice for prime minister in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, he returned to the NDA in 2017 after quitting the Grand Alliance.
On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar gave Lalu Prasad Yadav a call and informed him of all the political happenings in the state.
Former JD(U) leader and political analyst Prashant Kishor claimed that Nitish Kumar broke the alliance because he did not feel at ease with the BJP during his most recent tenure, which lasted from 2017 to 2022.
