According to the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh has been registered as the most noise polluted city in India and the second most polluted in the world. A maximum of 114 decibels of pollution has been recorded in Moradabad.
In the report of the UN on noise pollution in the world, the list of most to least polluted was mentioned. As we speak, in the list of noise pollution across the world Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka is marked first place in the list followed by Moradabad( Uttar Pradesh) of India. While Pakistan's capital Islamabad stood third on the list.
A total of 13 South Asian cities are named on the list. Out of these 13 South Asian, five cities are from India itself.
According to studies, more than 70 decibels of sound frequency are viewed as treacherous. Dhaka is reported 119 decibels while Islamabad with 105 decibels of pollution. The world health organization (WHO) suggests 55 decibels for residential areas in the 1999 guidelines and 70 DB for traffic and industrial areas.
Apart from Moradabad the other four cities in India includes:
Kolkata- 89 decibels;
Asansol( West Bengal)- 89 DB;
Jaipur- 84 decibels; and,
Delhi with 83 decibels.
