The prices of petrol and diesel are stable across the country on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Check the latest city-wise rates here
The prices of petrol and diesel have remained stagnant across the country on Saturday, December 18, 2021, as fuel rates have been left untouched by the state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs). It has been more than a month and a half now since petrol and diesel prices have seen any changes.
However, Delhi was the latest city to revise petrol prices alone on December 1 when the Kejriwal government reduced the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol from 30 percent to 19.40 percent, making petrol cheaper by Rs 8 in the national capital.
Since then, petrol is retailing at Rs 95.41 in Delhi whereas diesel prices have remained unchanged at Rs 86.67 per litre in the national capital.
In India's financial capital, Mumbai, a litre of petrol costs Rs 109.98 per litre, while diesel is being sold at Rs 94.14 per litre.
Similarly, petrol is available at Rs 104.67 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 89.79 per litre and people have to shell out Rs 89.79 for one litre of diesel.
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu's capital, Chennai, the prices of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 101.40 and Rs 91.43 per litre, respectively.
Among the four metro cities, fuel rates are still the highest in Mumbai.
Notably, state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have neither raised nor reduced petrol and diesel prices in the last one-and-a-half months, even as international crude oil prices remained volatile with benchmark Brent crude plunging below $70 a barrel on November 30 from $84.78 on November 9.
Despite the fact that the fuel rates are left untouched by the oil companies since excise cut by the Central government, the prices of petrol are still above the Rs 100-per litre mark in most Indian states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
However, on the other hand, talking about metros, petrol and diesel are being sold the cheapest in Delhi.
