Prithviraj Kapoor was an Indian actor, he is also considered the father of Hindi cinema. Prithviraj was also one of the founders of ITPA. Prithviraj Kapoor established the Prithvi Theater in Mumbai in 1944. Kapoor generations are still playing their roles in Hindi films (Bollywood). He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1971 by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Prithviraj Kapoor was born on November 3, 1906 in Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan). His father Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor was a police officer in the Indian Police. Who were posted in Peshawar city. Prithviraj's grandfather, Dewan Keshavmal Kapoor, was Tehsildar at Samundri near Lyallpur. Prithviraj Kapoor was the eldest of eight siblings. Kapoor received his early education from Lyallpur Khalsa College and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Edwards College, Peshawar. Before joining acting, he also studied law for a year.
Prithviraj Kapoor started his career in theaters of Lyallpur and Peshawar. In 1928, he took a loan from his aunt and moved to his dream city, Bombay. Where he joined Imperial Films Company and started doing small roles in films. In 1928, he made his acting debut as a co-star in his first film, Be Dhari Talwar. Prithvi played the lead role in her third film, Cinema Girl, released in 1929. He later also joined the Grant Anderson Theater Company, an English theater company.
Kapoor remained devoted to theater and continued performing on stage regularly. In 1944, Kapoor established his own theater group, Prithvi Theatres. Prithviraj invested in Prithvi Theatres, which gave memorable productions across India. This theater performed approximately 2,662 performances. Prithviraj played the lead actor in every single show. As Kapoor grew older, he gradually stopped his theater activities. After which he accepted the offer of some films along with his sons and started acting in films. He appeared in the role of a strict judge in the 1951 film Awara, in which he co-starred with his son Raj. Prithviraj died on 29 May 1972 in Mumbai.
Prithviraj Kapoor married Ramsarni Mehra. They both had four children – Raj Kapoor, Urmila Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. Elder son Raj Kapoor married Krishna Malhotra, they both had five children - Randhir Kapoor, Ritu Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Reema Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Generations of the Kapoor family are still making their mark in Bollywood.
Prithviraj Kapoor received the country's highest film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Its Prithviraj has also been awarded the Padma Bhushan and many other major awards.
