Early on Sunday, a train travelling between Delhi and Kolkata apparently had more than 20 armed robbers board it. Firstpost reported that the robbers got onto at least six or seven of the train's bogies and threatened several passengers with guns before robbing them.
The investigation states that the event took place aboard train 12274 as it passed through Patna, Bihar, at around three in the morning. The Government Railway Police (GRP) employees, according to the passengers, allegedly got off the train at Patna station. The driver was cited in the report as adding that shortly after, someone pulled the emergency chain, leading to the entry of close to two dozen robbers.
“Around 10km after the train had left Patna, there was a sudden commotion and I saw people running around. The train stopped soon after and several people from outside got onto some of the bogies. They snatched the belongings of several passengers,” Firstpost was informed by a businessman from Kolkata who was riding the train.
Many of the victims, who complained when the train arrived at Kolkata's Howrah station, claimed that the robbers stole their belongings, including their luggage.
The occurrence, especially in specific regions of the country like Bihar, tends to bring back memories of the gloomy times of total anarchy while travelling by rail.
