One of the Russian Navy’s most significant warships sank into the black sea after an unexplained explosion. Earlier to the sinking Russia's defence ministry gave a statement saying "the vessel is seriously damaged. The entire crew have been evacuated". The blast on the vessel was the result of exploding ammunition. Due to that, it said they would be towing the warship back to the port. While doing so the ship "lost its balance due to damage sustained in the hull".
"Given the choppy seas, the vessel sank," the Russian state news agency TASS quoted.
Ukraine on the other hand claimed, it is responsible for the sinking of the ship. Odessa military spokesman Sergey Bratchuk said Moskva had begun to sink after it hit Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles.
"In the Black Sea operational zone, Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles hit the cruiser Moskva, the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, it received significant damage," the statement said. "A fire broke out. Other units of the ship's group tried to help, but a storm and a powerful explosion of ammunition overturned the cruiser and it began to sink."
While Russia said a fire broke out on the guided-missile cruiser, causing ammunition to explode, foisting severe damage to the vessel, and causing the crew of the warship to be evacuated.
However, none of the claims and the cause of the sinking of the warship has been verified yet.
