The upcoming Silver Line, connecting Aerocity to Tughlalakabad, has sought permission from the Indian Railways to approve the passage of the extensive line under 17 pairs of active railway tracks.
While passing below railway tracks is nothing new in Delhi Metro, the tracks between Tughlakabad and Tughlakabad Railway Colony may be the highest in number so far.
Anuj Dayal, executive director of DMRC, was found assuring to maintain a gap of 15 meters between the railway tracks and the Metro tunnel below. Tunnel boring machines will be used to carry out the tunneling in this part. This might prove to be a major challenge as it will need the authorities to make sure no disruption is caused to the movement of trains on this segment during the construction time.
The railway tracks being crossed by Delhi Metro are 110 meters long and are a daily travel route of Delhi-Palwal commuters. It is the highly busy corridor of the rail network for the travelers of Faridabad and other far-flung areas.
DMRC has promised to use adequate instrumentation to monitor the rail tracks 24×7 and to engage in the construction with proper safety measures. DMRC officials are currently in hang for approval from the Indian Railways. The officials from Northern Railway have assured to give an official response to DMRC request after proper review and finalization.
Scheduled to be completed by 2025, the silver line will carry 15 stations, joining Aerocity to Tughlakabad via Chhatarpur (yellow line). The line ending at Tughlakabad will be further connected with the Violet line running between Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh. The silver line track is 23.62 km and is under Delhi Metro phase 4 expansion.
The construction preparation is in progress for the line and DMRC has given an order to L&T Construction to design the new underground line of phase IV of Delhi.
