About Sudarshan Setu
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated ‘Sudarshan Setu’ in Dwarka, Gujarat on 25 February. This cable bridge connects Okha to Beyt Dwarka situated in the middle of the sea. If we look at its length, it is about 2.32 kilometers long. Bet Dwarka is an island near Okha port, about 30 km from Dwarka city, where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Bhagwan Krishna is located.
Special things about ‘Sudarshan Setu’
- ‘Sudarshan Setu’ has been constructed at a cost of Rs 979 crore. It will also be known as Okha-Bet Dwarka Signature Bridge. This bridge will hold great importance for the residents and pilgrims visiting the Dwarkadhish temple.
- The 27.20 meter wide bridge with four lanes has 2.50 meter wide footpaths on both sides. It is being told that Sudarshan Bridge has a unique design. It has a footpath decorated with verses from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Bhagwan Krishna on both sides.
- Solar energy panels have also been installed on the upper part of the footpath, which will generate one megawatt of electricity.
- Before the construction of Sudarshan Setu, pilgrims had to struggle a lot to reach Bet Dwarka. They had to depend on the boat. If the weather was bad, people had to wait. Now with the construction of this bridge, Devbhoomi will also serve as a major tourist attraction of Dwarka. Apart from this, it will save a lot of time for the traveling devotees.
- The deck of this bridge is made of composite steel-reinforced concrete.
The construction of this bridge was approved by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in the year 2016. Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone of the bridge connecting Okha and Bet Dwarka on October 7, 2017. Earlier its estimated cost was Rs 962 crore, but later it was increased.
