Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has launched a defamation lawsuit against Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, for making allegations of corruption against his wife. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Mr. Sarma, has already sued Mr. Sisodia for defamation in the amount of Rs. 100 crore.
Earlier this week , Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, had filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The defamation suit was against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who had alleged malpractice in giving contracts for PPE at above market rates.Deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia and Sarma got into a heated argument last month.
Following Sisodia’s allegations of wrongdoing in the purchase of Covid Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, Sarma has vowed to sue for criminal defamation.Advocate P Nayak told media persons, “My client Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has filed an FIR. Manish Sisodia gave a political statement and dragged my client. Bhuyan has not filed any tender for the process. My client submitted the PPE kit as a donation under CSR activities.”A 2020 investigation into the discrepancies in the purchase of sanitizers and PPE kits has been called by opposition parties including the Congress, Raijor Dal, and Assam Jatiya Parishad. Sarma was the minister of health at the time.
