The Indian boxing team of Nikhat Zareen, Nitu Ghanghas, and Amit Panghal won India's third gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday. The current world champion, Nikhat, won the match against Northern Ireland's Carly MC Naul by a quick unanimous decision.
With the victory, India earned its 48th overall medal and 17th gold of the competition.Nikhat's CWG 2022 campaign got underway against Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique in the round of 16. By receiving a perfect score of 10 from all five judges, Nikhat won the first round by a score of 5-0. She then defeated her opponent in the second round by a score of 5-0. In the third round, Nikhat dominated so thoroughly that the referee had to call time.
When asked how she would rank her CWG accomplishment, Nikhat responded:To be a world champion is the biggest medal for me. Par sab ki jagah alag hai (every medal has its own significance). It's like I can't keep my parents separate and both are equal, dad or mom."As a result of Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal, and Nitu Ganghas winning the gold medal in their respective divisions on Day 10 of the Commonwealth Games 2022, it has already become a memorable day for Indian boxing.Helen Jones of Wales competed against Nikhat in the quarterfinal.
As was to be expected, Nikhat performed to the best of her ability and defeated her opponent 5-0 to win the first round. Again winning 5-0, Nikhat also got a perfect 10 in the second round. In the third round, Helen made several good blows, but Nikhat would fiercely respond.
