Ajit Kumar Doval is currently the National Security Advisor (NSA) of India. He is a 1968-Batch ‘IPS Officer’ of Kerala Cadre. He has also been awarded the Police Medal and Kirti Chakra for his services.
Birth & Education
Ajit Doval was born on January 20, 1945. Doval was born in Giri Banelsyun village of Pauri Garhwal in the then Uttarakhand. Ajit Doval’s father was Major GN Doval. Major GN Doval was an officer in the Indian Army. Since Ajit Doval’s father was in the Indian Army, he received his education in many places in the country. After completing his primary education from Ajmer Military School, Ajmer, Ajit Doval did MA in Economics from Agra University.
Family
Ajit Doval’s father, Major GN Doval, was in the Indian Army. His wife’s name is Aruni Doval. The Doval couple have two sons – Shaurya Doval and Vivek Doval. Shaurya Doval is currently an executive member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP Uttarakhand). He has worked as an investment banker for GE Capital and Morgan Stanley, and is also associated with several think tanks, such as the Vivekananda International Foundation. Vivek Doval is a Chartered Accountant (CA).
Career as Police and Spymaster
Ajit Doval’s career began in 1968, when he was selected in the Indian Police Service (IPS). He is a 1968 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre. Initially, he worked as a police officer as SP of Kottayam district of Kerala.
Ajit Doval spent the major part of his career as an active field intelligence officer in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He reached the post of ‘Director of IB’. He carried out many successful operations in the Intelligence Bureau. According to available information, these operations include negotiations with plane hijackers, infiltration of the Golden Temple as an ISI agent during Operation Black Thunder in 1988, etc. Apart from this, he also served in Kashmir and Meghalaya and according to legends, he stayed in Pakistan as a spy for 7 years. He retired from this post in January 2005.

After Retirement
After retiring from the Intelligence Bureau, Ajit Doval formed an organization named ‘Vivekananda International Foundation’. This institution has emerged as a major discussion center in the field of policy-making in India.
NSA
On May 30, 2014, Ajit Doval was appointed as the National Security Advisor (NSA) of India. He is the fifth National Security Advisor of India. India’s security system has improved significantly during his tenure.
Honor & Awards
Ajit Doval has been honored with many awards during his service and later. He has been awarded the Police Medal. Doval was the youngest police officer to receive the Police Medal for his meritorious service.
In the year 1988, Doval was awarded the Kirti Chakra. He was the first police officer to receive this medal. Earlier this medal was given only as a military honor.
