- Maithili Sharan Gupt was born on August 3, 1886 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. He was born as the third child of father ‘Seth Ramcharan Gupt’ and mother ‘Kashi Bai’.
- His early education took place in the government school of Chirgaon, Jhansi. After completing primary education, Maithilisharan Gupta was sent to McDonnell High School in Jhansi to study English, but there he started getting more interested in sports, due to which he could not complete his official education.
- The rest of his education was completed at home itself. Staying at home, Gupta studied Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali literature extensively.
- Guptji was one of the most popular poets of modern times. He created 40 original compositions. Besides, 6 translated books of Maithilisharan Gupta were also published.
- After India gained independence in 1947, he was nominated a member of the Rajya Sabha. He remained a member of the Rajya Sabha until his death in 1964. Maithili Sharan Gupta died on December 12, 1964.
