Pratibha Patil was born on December 19, 1934 in a Marathi family. He was born in Nadgaon in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. His father's name was Narayan Rao. Narayan Rao was also a politician.
Patil received his early education from RR Vidyalaya, Jalgaon and later obtained a master's degree in political science and economics from Mulji Jetha College, Jalgaon. Later, he obtained Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Government Law College, Bombay (Mumbai).
Patil started his professional career as a practicing lawyer in Jalgaon District Court.
