Savitribai Phule was an Indian woman, known for the social work she did. Savitribai Phule was originally a Maharashtrian poet, teacher, social reformer and teacher. She made significant contributions to advancing women's rights in India along with her husband Jyotiba Phule in Maharashtra.
Savitribai was married to Jyotirao Phule. When both of them got married, Savitribai was 9 years old, while Jyotiba Phule was 13 years old. Although the couple did not have any children, they reportedly adopted Yashwantrao, the son of a Brahmin widow.
Savitribai Phule was known as the first principal of India's first girls' school and the founder of the first farmers' school. Along with her husband Jyotirao Phule, she emerged as an important personality of the social reform movements in Maharashtra and India during that period. Along with her husband, she opened many schools for women.
Savitribai Phule died on 10 March 1897 due to plague.
