On Monday, 9,500 delegates cast ballots to choose the new leader of the grand old party, according to Madhusudan Mistry, head of the Congress Central Election Authority. He added that this information is provisional and will be updated shortly.
Mistry continued by saying that other parties might draw lessons from the election's open conduct. He said that 87 persons cast ballots at the AICC headquarters, including Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, P Chidambaram, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“By and large, 96% of voting took place across states. There was no adverse incident during polling... Three ballot boxes have been received so far,” Mistry stated at a press conference following the election conducted at the AICC's Delhi headquarters. Around 4.30 p.m., voting was completed.
Voting started as expected shortly after 10am and ended shortly after 4pm.
The election received a 96% turnout, according to Madhusudan Mistry, the party's central election authority, who spoke to the media.
