External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told the Indian community in Panama that India has launched 'Operation Kaveri' to evacuate its stranded citizens from trouble-torn Sudan and bring them back safely.
Jaishankar reached Panama from Guyana on Monday. He called on President Nieto Cortizo and conveyed to him the personal greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He met the Indian community here on Tuesday and also visited a Hindu temple in Panama.
He tweeted that the morning in Panama City began with seeking divine blessings at a Hindu temple and meeting the enthusiastic Indian community. It was heartening to see his love and dedication for the nation.
During his interaction with the Indian community, the External Affairs Minister spoke about the stranded Indians in Sudan and the Government's efforts to evacuate them safely.
He said I am here in Panama right now. I was in Guyana for the last few days. However, my mind is in Sudan. We are running 'Operation Kaveri' there in which we want to evacuate and rescue the stranded Indians in Sudan.
We are working to bring them back or transfer them to some other country and get them out safely, he added.
Jaishankar on Monday announced the launch of Operation Kaveri, a mission to bring back stranded Indians from Sudan, which is facing fierce fighting following a power struggle between the regular army and the RSF.
