In a tragic turn of events, four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, lost their lives following a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The news was reported by PTI, citing official sources.
The encounter began on Monday night when joint forces from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of J&K Police started a cordon and search operation. Among the fallen was Major Brijesh Thappa of the 10th Rashtriya Rifles, who had recently been promoted. The details of the other casualties have not been disclosed yet. The confrontation with the terrorists initially lasted for over 20 minutes. During this time, five security personnel, including the officer, sustained injuries. They were rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
Following the skirmish, additional troops were deployed to the area to continue the operation. As of the latest reports, the operation was still ongoing. The Indian Army’s White Knights Corps communicated through a post on social media platform X, noting that the operation had led to a heavy exchange of fire with the terrorists.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has been briefed by the Indian Army Chief on the situation. Union Minister and MP from Doda, Jitendra Singh, expressed his disturbance over the incident. He reiterated the community’s commitment to defeating terrorist activities and maintaining peace in the region.
The incident has also drawn political responses. The Congress party highlighted an increase in terrorist attacks since the BJP began its third term in government. The party shared a graphic claiming there have been nine terrorist attacks within 38 days, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries among soldiers and civilians. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the government’s approach to national security, urging a recalibration of security strategies and a united stand against terrorism.
