The first-ever Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022 (CEC), which are taking place in Birmingham, England, in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games, saw India win bronze in DOTA 2.
The Indian team that competed in the Dota 2 competition at the first Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022 received a bronze medal on Sunday. In a best-of-three match, the team from India defeated the one from New Zealand by a score of 2-0 to win the medal. At the Asian Games 2018, India also took home a bronze medal, and it is now aiming to make a big impression at the Asian Games 2022, where e-sports are a legitimate medal event. The Rocket League team was unable to take home any medals.
The forthcoming Asian Games will recognise Esports as an official medal sport, despite the fact that it wasn’t an official model at the CEC 2022.
The nation won its first-ever e-sports medal at the Commonwealth Games with this achievement. At the 2018 Asian Games, India also took home a bronze medal. The Asian Games in 2022 will be the next stop for e-sports, where there will be legitimate medal events, according to Lokesh Suji, Director of the Indian Esports Federation and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation.
