India has been without an ICC championship for nine years. In 2013, when the Indian cricket team won the Champions Trophy, MS Dhoni still served as captain. India's cricket supporters hope for a turnaround as the Rohit Sharma-led squad prepares for Australia's 2022 T20 World Cup. However, injuries have hindered India's preparation for the tournament. According to a PTI report, stand-by bowler Deepak Chahar would also be unable to participate in the T20 World Cup owing to injury, joining Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah in being ruled out due to injury.
Nasser Hussain, a former England captain, claimed in a podcast on Sky Sports that India needs to come out of its shell if they are to do well in ICC events.
"ICC events have been India's problems. With a variety of players, they have been thrashing everyone while rotating and taking breaks. They have elite T20 cricketers and highly seasoned cricketers from the IPL. However, they played some hesitant cricket throughout international events and nearly disappeared. A World Cup requires a different mentality than a bilateral one does. They undoubtedly played some terrifying cricket during the most recent World Cup, particularly during powerplays. Rohit and Rahul need to maintain their offensive potential. Sky Sports quoted the former England captain saying that Suryakumar Yadav has been in phenomenal form..
"They are without Bumrah and Jadeja, two outstanding cricketers. Must maintain the bilaterals in the last year or so."
India starts their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.
