Sankar Muthusamy of India qualified for the men's u-19 singles final on Saturday at the BWF World Junior Championships in Spain with a decisive straight-game victory against Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul of Thailand. Muthusamy, who entered the event as the fourth seed, displayed excellent athleticism and strategic thinking to defeat Teeraratsakul 21-13, 21-15 in a 40-minute semifinal. In the summit match on Sunday, he will compete against the winner of the second semifinal between Kuo Kuan Lin of Chinese Taipei and Byung Jae Kim of Korea.
India has won a gold, three silver, and five bronze medals in the tournament's history, with Lakshya Sen taking home the final bronze medal in 2018.
Saina Nehwal, who won a bronze medal in the London Olympics, is the only Indian to have won the junior world championship.
