Snehasish Ganguly, the Cricket Association of Bengal's recently elected president, offered Wriddhiman Saha, who had left his country and joined Tripura amicably, a helping hand. After a disagreement with a CAB official, the experienced Indian Test wicketkeeper quit Bengal after declaring himself "unavailable" for the state squad after realizing he was no longer on the national radar. Wriddhiman then left CAB after 15 years and joined Tripura as a mentor-cum-player.
Snehasish, who succeeded Avishek Dalmiya as president of the CAB, expressed his hope that the 38-year-old veteran will eventually return to his own country while maintaining their "cordial connection."
"Wriddhi is the pride of Bengal. Only Sourav (113) and Pankaj Roy (43) have played in more Tests than him from Bengal. After being overwhelmingly chosen as CAB president at its 91st annual general meeting today, Snehasish remarked, "He has contributed a lot to Bengal and still has enough to give.
"We still get along well with Wriddhi, and we think he will return to play for Bengal in the future. I'd be happy to have him return," Snehasish remarked.
"At the moment, it won't be appropriate to bother him because he is preoccupied with the season. But when the season is done, I'll attempt to get in touch with him. He will always be welcome here, and we'll be even more than happy to welcome him back," Snehasish added.
Days after he was not given a second term as the BCCI president, former India captain Sourav Ganguly had expressed his interest in contesting for the CAB's chief post but later made a U-turn, paving the way for his elder brother.
Vice-President Amalendu Biswas, Secretary Naresh Ojha, Joint Secretary Debabrata Das, and Treasurer Prabir Chakraborty are the other position holders in Snehasish's office. They were all chosen unanimously.
Snehasish said that his top priorities would be improving Team India's supply chain and advancing cricket in Bengal.
"Bengal cricket should reach new heights, in my opinion. The athletes are the resources… I'm hoping that we can improve the supply chain for Indian cricket because no matter how well we prepare, they will be the ones to deliver." Snehasish stated that the Eden Gardens would undergo renovations before the World Cup, including updating the Club House and gallery and replacing the floodlights with LEDs.
"It was an honor and a joy to head the CAB, and I have tried my best to serve Bengal cricket to the best of my ability and tried my best to ensure transparency," said President Avishek Dalmiya.
We also have ambitious plans to guarantee that Eden Gardens will continue to rank among the greatest stadiums ever built.
