Shaheen Afridi, a Pakistani bowler, made his much-anticipated comeback from a knee injury last week against England in a T20 World Cup warm-up match. Afridi just bowled two overs and didn’t manage to get a wicket, either. Shaheen, though, hit twice in as many overs for Pakistan in the second warm-up match against Afghanistan, giving Pakistan a strong start. Rahmatullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai, Afghanistan’s openers, were both out. Gurbaz was smacked with a toe-crushing yorker from Shaheen and was in excruciating pain as a result.
While the umpire handed Gurbaz the boot, Afghanistan was more worried about the player’s health.
The physios arrived to check on Gurbaz, which caused a brief halt in play.
Eventually, because he was unable to walk, a replacement fielder helped him off the field.
Gurbaz was rushed to the hospital for scans, and it was subsequently learned.
Afghanistan eventually scored 154 for 6, partly because of captain Mohammad Nabi’s undefeated 51-ball innings.
After being moved into the batting order, Afghanistan struggled after Shaheen and Haris Rauf shook the top order, falling to 82 for six.
Nabi and Usman Ghani, who together scored 72 runs for the seventh wicket, helped Afghanistan to a respectable total.
In response, Pakistan reached 19/0 in 2.2 overs when play was halted by rain.
