In a recent Women's Big Bash League match, Sophie Ecclestone of England grabbed attention as she made an unusual run out for Sydney Sixers versus Melbourne Stars. The Stars, chasing a 148-run target, were at 101/5 in the 17th over when left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone forced fellow countrywoman Tess Flintoff to be run out oddly. Flintoff attempted to connect on the fourth ball of the over but failed. Ecclestone seized the ball after her delivery and hurled it toward the striker's end stumps. Flintoff was out due to the straight throw.
Along with the footage of the runout, WBBL posted on its social media accounts, "Ya joking. Unreal from Sophie Ecclestone #WBBL08."
The Women's Big Bash League is a very popular league in Australia. In women's T20 franchise leagues all over the world, it was a pioneer. The Women's Indian Premier League will now take place as well. Before the debut of the men's IPL in March 2023, the eagerly anticipated Women's IPL will launch with five teams.
The competition would include 20 league games in which each club will face the other twice, according to a BCCI letter reviewed by PTI. The teams that finish second and third will compete in the Eliminator, while the table toppers will advance to the championship game. There may only be five foreign cricketers on each squad.
The BCCI note stated, "It has been tentatively decided to have five teams for WIPL. Each team can comprise a maximum of eighteen players, whereas no team can have more than six overseas players. Additionally, no more than five overseas players - four from Full Members of the ICC and one from the Associate Members of the ICC - can be part of the playing XI of each team.
