The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022 was won by students from the CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT), Bengaluru, for their creation of a website and a smartphone application that predicts crops for a given season depending on water availability. At the SIH 2022 grand finale on August 25 and 26, the team received a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh.
The group created a website and a mobile app for farmers abased on a problem statement from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Ministry of Jal Shakti. Through video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the kids who took part in the grand finale.
Dr. Sharmila K. P., Dr. Adarsh Rag S., and Pratik Mukesh Bharuka were mentors for the team led by Vaibhav B (Electronics and Communication Engineering). Other team members include computer science engineers Manisha Kumari, Mohnish Kamalaksha, Devadathan Menon, Adithya Anbazhagan, Louise Patra, and Mohnish Kamalaksha (Electronics and Communication Engineering) (Computer Science Engineering).
On a national level, only 2,000 teams out of 30,000 were chosen for the SIH 2022 grand finals. From the CMRIT, five teams were selected, three of which were software teams and two of which were hardware teams. Team Code Hydrotopes from CMRIT took part in the Prin LN Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (We School), Mumbai nodal center, one of 75 nodal centers.
The smartphone application developed by Code Hydrotopes recommends planting various alternative crops in place of the traditional ones that farmers traditionally grew to reduce the dangers of low production and financial loss in their business. The judges said that this application would assist thousands of farmers in choosing the best crop for the current season.
According to a public announcement, the Code Hydrotopes team of CMRIT sees this as the start of their efforts to develop solutions for social needs. Dr. Sanjay Jain, Principal of CMRIT, complimented the entire team on the accomplishment and urged students to concentrate on solving issues important to society.
