Finland is crowned as the happiest country for the running fifth year. It was named the happiest country in an UN-sponsored index.

While Finland was named as the happiest country, meanwhile Afghanistan was ranked as the unhappiest country following Lebanon.

Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia are ranked the biggest boost in well-being.

"This (index) presents a stark reminder of the material and immaterial damage that war does to its many victims," co-author Jan-Emmanuel De Neve stated.

The index included 146 countries. Amongst them, Afghanistan and Lebanon fall at the bottom of the table. Lebanon is facing an economic slump making it to the second last place in the world’s happiest country score table.

On the other hand, Afghanistan faced a terrible humanitarian catastrophe since the Taliban gained power back last August.

This World happiness report is wholly based on people’s own appraisal of happiness as well economic and social data.

This year's data list was completed before the Russia-Ukraine war crisis. Also, this year’s estimation of happiness was conducted by analyzing social media before and after the pandemic. The emotions were mostly anxiety and sadness amongst people. The top spots were dominated by Northern Europeans following the Danes, Finns, Swiss, and the Dutch

The happiness index score is also based on each country's GDP, the levels of corruption Social support, and personal freedom.

"The lesson of the World Happiness Report over the years is that social support, generosity to one another, and honesty in government are crucial for wellbeing," report co-author Jeffrey Sachs wrote.
