Marie-Rosa Bonheur popularly known as Rosa Bonheur was a french artist. She was born on 16 March 1822 in Bordeaux, Gironde. She was mostly an aminal painter and also a sculptor. She was considered the most famous female painter of the 19th century.
The early success she got was from her painting Ploughing in the Nivernais, which got exhibited in 1849 and presently at Musée d'Orsay.
She was honoured with the French Legion of Honour by Empress Eugénie in 1865. She was the first female artist to be given this award. Also her painting The Horse Fair was also exhibited in New york’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
