The vast majority of Indians are also unambiguously convinced that global warming is endangering their lives and way of life and poses a clear threat to the wellbeing of the next generation. Unexpectedly, a sizable majority of Indians believe that, even if there is a cost involved, citizens and the government must take proactive measures to reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, a sizeable majority of Indians believe that steps made to address global warming will have a favourable effect on future economic growth and job prospects.
Together with a group of international experts, lead by the Yale University team, CVoter carried out this historic poll. 4,619 adult Indians over the age of 18 were reached on their mobile phones during the survey's October 2021–January 2022 period using random sampling methodologies. The team at Yale revealed the survey's findings and the analysis that accompanied them on October 18.
It is not necessary to be shocked by the outcomes. Consider the year 2022 in India as an illustration of how Indians have already started to live in a world affected by global warming. India has traditionally experienced unpredictable weather. However, this year, the definition of erratic completely changed. First, an enormous heat wave hit a significant portion of India.
At a time when there is a global food scarcity issue, it is not surprising that this year's Kharif harvest would be less than 105 million tonnes, down from 115 million tonnes in 2021. The horrific flooding that occurred in Pakistan, the disastrous heatwaves that occurred in Europe, and the severe forest fires that occurred in Australia and the United States could not be adequately covered in a single column.
More than half of Indians (53%) report that the monsoon's dependability has changed, and a majority (56%) report that hot days are now more common in their neighbourhood. The majority of India's almost 700 million Internet users are aware of these facts. Additionally, they are aware of the particular and serious threat posed by global warming on an instinctive, cultural, and civilizational level.
