On April 13, Iran carried out a drone attack against Israel, attributing the strike to Israel’s alleged attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus, Syria. This represents the first direct military confrontation amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, sparking fears of a broader regional conflict.
President Joe Biden of the United States announced that he convened with his national security team at the White House to receive a briefing on Iran’s attacks on Israel amid ongoing hostilities between the two nations.
The Israeli military reported that the Iranian offensive involved over 300 “killer drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles,” with 99 percent intercepted, assisted by forces from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The launches originated from Iran, Iraq, and Yemen, according to Israel.
Following a series of explosive drone and missile attacks against Israel late on Saturday, Iran asserted to the United Nations that the action was a legitimate exercise of its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“Iran’s response will be stronger and more resolute should the Israeli regime commit further military aggression,” the statement warned.
India expressed serious concern about the intensifying hostilities between Israel and Iran, warning that the situation threatens peace and stability in the West Asia region. A Foreign Ministry statement urged immediate de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomacy.
