S. Jaishankar, the Union Minister for External Affairs, stated on Thursday that the consequences of the situation in Ukraine will result in a three-F (fuel, food, and fertilizers) crisis, leading to hunger and a cascading problem in many nations during the next crop.
On Thursday, he spoke at an event in Bengaluru called “Eight Years of National Security,” which was organized by the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) in partnership with the International Studies Network Bangalore (ISNB).
This can genuinely damage our competitiveness, the Minister stated, using the Ukraine issue as an example of how something far away can have a direct impact on our well-being.
A vast portion of the planet is under the control of the Ukraine conflict. Fuel, food, and fertilizer prices have risen dramatically. They have a substantial inflationary effect. It will actually lead to famine in the case of food, and it will cause a cascading problem in the case of fertilizers down the road. As a result, many countries’ harvests would be impacted,” the Minister warned.
One important achievement of these eight years was actually the land boundary agreement with Bangladesh. It has had an enormous impact on the India-Bangladesh relationship. It has really opened up huge possibilities for Bangladesh for all our north-eastern states. Similarly, where Myanmar is concerned, we have had a foreign policy that has engaged the regime and made it very difficult for Indian insurgent groups on a different track,” he added.
