Two days after she vanished from the slopes of Nepal’s Manaslu peak, a search party found the body of renowned US ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson in the Himalayas on Wednesday.
Rescuers found her and brought her body back to the base camp. Later today, sources at the base camp reported, her mortal remains will be flown to Kathmandu. On Monday, while her companion Jim Marrison was skiing down the 8613-meter peak, Hilaree Nelson had vanished just below the mountain’s actual summit.
While skiing from the actual summit of the mountain with Morrison, Nelson apparently slipped into a crevice just above the fore summit. According to prior reports from eyewitnesses, she fell around 25 metres into a vertical crevice and vanished.
The search team that left this morning on a helicopter spotted her body and is bringing her back,” Jiban Ghimire from Shangri-La Nepal Trek, the organisation that planned the trek, spoke to AFP.
