The United States of America has decided to help the UAE to fight the surge in Houthi attacks. The US said that it will dispatch 5th generation fighter aircraft to assist the United Arab Emirates against Houthis.

On Wednesday, Washington confirmed that it will be sending fighter jets to the UAE to assist the nation in countering a rise in the Houthi attacks on its soil. The Iran-backed Shiite Houthi Militias, earlier in January, launched three attacks using missiles and drones on the United Arab Emirates. The attacks led to the deaths of three people on January 17 and injuries to several others. Other attacks were intercepted by the UAE.

There were also attempts of an attack at a base where the United States forces were deployed. After a telephonic conversation with the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the defence secretary of the United States said that Washington will help in countering the attacks. The US will be sending the guided-missile destroyer USS Cole to collaborate with the navy of the UAE to curb the attacks in future, as per news reports.

According to the Department of Defence of the US, the US Defence Secretary has also informed the Crown Prince that the US will be deploying fifth-generation Fighter Aircraft to help the United Arab Emirates against the looming threat and also as a clear sign that the United States stands with the nation as a long-standing strategic partner.

The latest attacks by Houthi Militia came when the UAE had hosted the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog. The UAE had claimed that it had destroyed one of the missile launchers that belonged to Houthi in Yemen’s Al Jawf on the same day of the attack, a few hours after intercepting the missile. There were no claims of any casualties.

The Yemen Civil War has become a proxy war between 9 Gulf States and Iran and the United Kingdom, the United States, and France is among the nations who have indirectly participated in it. The civil war has been going on since 2015 inside Yemen. This is also indicative of the Shia-Sunni dispute which has given rise to several disputes and battles in the region.

Houthis are mostly Shia Muslims, the followers of Zaidism, have been fighting against the government of Yemen and have received backing from Iran. A coalition of the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Sudan, Egypt has helped Saudi Arabia against its fight with Houthi. The recent rise in the Houthi Attacks shows an escalation in the conflict.
