According to News18, the Yogi Adityanath government is planning its own annual survey, which would begin by interviewing roughly three lakh women who gave birth in Uttar Pradesh in the previous year in an effort to reduce the state's high maternal and newborn death rates.
Uttar Pradesh's maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality rates are disproportionately higher than the rest of the country, according to a proposal document seen by News18
According to the SRS Bulletin for 2020, the infant mortality rate in UP will be 38 in 2020, down from 43 in 2018 and 61 almost a decade ago. However, the newest result was still significantly higher than the national average of 28. According to a recent NITI Aayog report, Uttar Pradesh is one of the most progressive states in terms of improving various health outcomes.
According to the 2018 forecasts, roughly 12,000 mothers and 2.5 lakh children under the age of one year are likely to die in Uttar Pradesh each year, based on the projected population. In addition, the Global Burden of Disease Study, published in 2017, revealed a wide range of IMR across the 75 districts, with the lowest being 36 in Deoria and the highest being 72 in Agra.
The new survey will cover critical health indicators such as reproductive health, maternal, newborn, and child health, risk factors, mental health, treatment-seeking pattern, telemedicine exposure, out-of-pocket health expenditure, Ayushman Bharat Yojna exposure, substance use, tuberculosis, and multidimensional poverty.
The earlier survey news released in the early week of this month showed that more children are living in UP now as compared to the numbers a decade ago, suggesting a comparison of the Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin on Infant Mortality Rate. The bulletin for reference year 2020 was released last week. At least 55 lakh children are born in UP each year.
